I saw it, and wouldn’t recommend it. I tend to avoid movies about animals, they either die or suffer and it’s hard to watch. I wasn’t going to see it, but after it was nominated for an Oscar, I decided to give it a chance. Cinematography was beautiful, story was weak and sentimental. Hardest scene to watch was the warhorse, Joey, charging across the battlefield getting tangled in barbwire until he collapses. I would rather have stayed home and watched a rerun of The Office. Anyone else?
I saw it. I give it a mixed review, wonderful in some aspects but I was unprepared. I was caught off guard by the brutality and had a hard time staying in my seat because of it. It is, foremost, a war movie. Being a horse lover makes it hard to take. There are wonderful moments, but be prepared.
I enjoyed it, even though it was hard to watch..and I covered my eyes through some parts…but it did have some beautiful moments seeing the bond between humans and animals. The determination of love… The reality of war really hit hard and it made you appreciate the invention of tanks…and the progress we have made.
